Dick Starke brings us the stories of Halloween in a 1968 "Spectrum USA" for the Marine Corps Reserve.

Gene Price - 1980

It must be the weekend.  Gene and Willard have brought the country memories from the rickety record racks on McCadden Place.

Charlie Tuna 1989

Charlie at KHJ

The most consistant personality in radio was Charlie Tuna. He did the same meticulous program in 1970 that he did in 1995. Normally that would be a bad thing, not with Charlie Tuna.

He was heard around the world daily on the Armed Forces Radio Network for a 25 year – 6000 show run from 1971 to 1996, as well as on numerous nationally syndicated radio shows, since the early 70’s. He’s now heard in syndication around the world.

Charlie has his own really great website over at charlietuna.com If you haven't been there yet you should!

Joe Allison - 1969

Joe with Red Steagal and Don Light

Andy Mansfield - 1963

In 1963 it really hadn't been that long since we lost MAJ Glenn Miller during WWII.  Glenn entertained the troops and cut a lot of exclusive music for AFRS and V Disc. Andy Mansfield did a five part tribute.

Bill Stewart - 1967

Today Bill Stewart's guest is Rudy Vallee.  Rudy was the biggest of the big in the 1920s and kept going for five decades.  It's a fun listen.

Jim Pewter - 1968

Time for Brother Jim.  A couple of years before this show, Jim was up in the division area in Korea on AFKN.  The "songs you forgot to remember" has never been more appropriate.

Inner Sanctum - 1949

This disk was played may times on our stations in Canada.  A great mystery program never really ages.  We still ran them in the 1970s and 80s.  This program was originally broadcast in 1949 and rebroadcast on AFRTS may times.

"The Unburied Dead". A good story about a woman who first finds out that she's not who she thinks she is, then, that she's been dead for six years, and finally, that she's wanted for murder!

Gene Price - 1980

Christmas will be here soon.  A nice gift for holiday giving is Gene's book, "Lukas Maiden Voyage".  It's a story of hope.  It was written by a friend.  Click here

Here's Gene and Leonard with your country favorites.

Wolfman Jack - 1974

It's how radio is done, he sure could sell.  The border blasters were totally geared on how much merchandise the talent could sell.  The best of them made a lot more money than in New York.  This guy was that good.  Let's hear about the Air Force!

Bill Stewart - 1967

Bill Stewart kept it jazzy and had a long AFRTS run..

WBG - Fort Bliss

Part of our history that seems to be gone was the stations in the United States.  A lot of posts had radio,  Seemingly supported by AFRS.  In El Paso, presumably Fort Bliss was WBG.  Many of the big country acts performed there.

Peter Birch was a dancer, choreographer and musician who most famously directed Captain Kangaroo for 25 years.  In January 1949 he performed at WBG.

AFN Derrick in the Morning

Derrick has checked in.  Welcome!

I was very happy to find your site and the page where you featured my Zfm show. I was the morning show guy from 1994 - 1995 at AFN HQ.

On one occasion I helped SRA Angie Pianga re-launch Spagndahlem's radio station which had been dormant for decades. I was there with a fan dressed as a chicken to do the inaugural show. A few years earlier Angie and I were radio broadcasters at AFKN in Seoul, Korea.
